From Mandalay to Pyin Oo Lwin was maybe 25km of flat then a steep climb and rather uninteresting scenery so no photos
The next day from Pyin Oo Lwin to Hsipaw we caught the bouncy train for a relaxing (no riding) and scenic journey.
After a tiring day I tried a fruit sundae in Pyin Oo Lwin. An unusual site in Burma, but not in Pyin Oo Lwin. And not just for tourists, here bring produce to the station. The “Ordinary Class” carriage. Amazingly there was no problem putting our bike in the aisle. Note the bags of garlic under the seats. Passengers and ticket collector just squeezed past as if it was normal. The rural scenery. Bullocks tilling the field in the early morning. The domestic scenery: Here a backyard including outdoor loo. Passengers organising lunch at a station, often wrapped in banana leaf. The Gokteik Viaduct built in 1901by a US company it was then the second highest rail bridge. The train goes very slowly across the viaduct. More rural views, haystacks were being built in almost every field as we approached Hsipaw On the river in Hsipaw a long canoe is poled & paddled upstream then fishing nets are cast for the drift downstream.
